Giving to the College
The College of Pharmacy has an extraordinary record of support from individuals and corporations. We are especially proud of our record of alumni giving.
What does this support mean for the College?
Investments by our alumni and friends allow the College to initiate special programs and respond to opportunities. The Dean's Fund for Excellence supports events, student and faculty travel to conferences and seminars, guest lectures by important speakers, alumni publications, and a variety of other priorities that add quality to our program.
Every year we are able to award more than $210,000 in scholarships - financial assistance that students need now more than ever -- thanks to our alumni and friends. Scholarships and loans are the only sources of financial assistance for our students..
Contributions help us recruit the best faculty and the best students - directly, through gifts to support scholarships and establish endowed professorships and indirectly, through the College's enhanced reputation.
Donor contributions also help specialized programs within the College meet their program goals, such as faculty research and our graduate education programs.
Endowment Funds
Endowment funds are an investment in the future of the College. Annually, the College receives a percent of the value of each endowment to support scholarships or professorships or research -- depending on the donor's wishes -- and any additional income is reinvested in the fund. The principal remains untouched.
Establishing an endowed fund creates a permanent legacy at the College. A minimum donation of $25,000 creates an endowed fund.
Planned Gifts
There are many different ways to make a planned gift to the College. These include bequests, charitable trusts, gift annuities, pooled income funds, and life insurance. Many of these vehicles offer you a lifetime income, with the remainder going to the College afterward. They also offer unique tax advantages. Many donors find planned gifts are an ideal way to support a cause that is important to them, while meeting their income needs and/or providing for family members.
Gifts of Property
Non-cash items, such as real estate, art collections, rare books, etc., may be gifted to the College of Pharmacy. Call Elaine Vincent at 509-335-8352 if you are interested in exploring this type of donation.
Stock Transfers
You may either have your stockbroker contact us, or ask us to contact him/her so that stock can be transferred from your account to ours. Besides qualifying for a charitable deduction, direct transfers of stock avoid capital gains taxes.
