Giving to the College

The College of Pharmacy has an extraordinary record of support from individuals and corporations. We are especially proud of our record of alumni giving. WSU College of Pharmacy alumni continue to be leaders in giving when compared to alumni at other pharmacy schools and at other colleges at WSU.

What does this support mean for WSU?

1. Contributions to the Dean's Fund for Excellence allow the College to initiate special programs and respond to opportunities. The Dean's Fund supports events, sends students and faculty to conferences and seminars, brings nationally known speakers to campus to share their work, funds special student recruitment initiatives, and pays for the College's alumni newsletter, CougaRx.

In recognition of the critical role played by the Dean's Fund for Excellence, the College has established a Dean's Circle of Excellence. This donor society provides special recognition to any donor who contributes $500 or more to annually to the Dean's Fund for Excellence.

2. Donations support our scholarship programs. Every fall we are able to award more than $210,000 in scholarships - financial assistance that is needed more than ever now. All pharmacy students now must pay graduate level tuition (almost twice the undergraduate rate) for four years of professional Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) training. Furthermore, they are no longer eligible for Pell grants and other forms of federally funded assistance. Scholarships and loans are their only sources of financial assistance.

3. Contributions help specialized programs within the College meet their program goals. Initiatives such as the Cancer Prevention and Research Center, the Drug Information Center, and the graduate program in pharmacology and toxicology need and receive assistance from private contributors. There is also a research fund that assists our faculty, particularly younger faculty members, in setting up their labs and getting their research programs off the ground.

4. Contributions help us recruit the best faculty and the best students - directly, through gifts to support scholarships and establish endowed professorships and chairs; and indirectly, through the College's enhanced reputation. Faculty and students joining the College frequently cite the strong support of its alumni as an important factor in their decision to come.
