Career Seminar Presentation - Large Scale Pharmacy Diversion: Providence Sacred Heart Outpatient Pharmacy


Sean Dobbin, Pharmacy Director at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, will detail the self-identification and 2013 investigation of a large-scale, internal diversion/embezzlement of controlled substances from Providence Sacred Heart Outpatient Pharmacy by a former pharmacy technician. Emphasis on the diversion quantity, duration, methodologies, and diversion detection avoidance measures will be outlined and described in detail, including emphasis on how detection was obscured by pharmacy software limitations. Additionally, a description of the post-diversion remedial measures engaged by the pharmacy will be described. Lastly, the presenter will share additional pharmacy diversion prevention and early-detection learnings, including best practices, for the audience’s consideration and will conclude with key pharmacy professional lessons learned. White lecture was held in 1981. Speakers are chosen to reflect Dr. White's professional philosophy: effective leadership does not simply accept change, but views it as an ongoing professional challenge to be grasped and shaped to meet the needs of society.

Mr. Pharmacy


Location: SEWC 122 Time: Doors open at 6:00 p.m., shows starts at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Pharmacy is a competition to identify which of the WSU College of Pharmacy gentlemen embody the personality and ideals of a true Cougar pharmacist! The competition consists of six student pharmacists (two from the P1-P3 classes) who compete in events such as a talent contest, interview session, skits of what you would be other than a pharmacist, and a catwalk wearing professional attire. Three faculty judges will grade the contestants based on creativity, enthusiasm, and other categories for each event. Last year was the first year that APhA-ASP hosted this event, and it made for a fun and exciting evening!

Career Seminar Series - Patrick Tabon, PharmD


Dr. Tabon is Clinical Pharmacist with Monarch HealthCare in Irvine CA. He with experience working with patients in the Program of All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) as well as patients on anti-retroviral (ART) therapies in the Los Angeles Area. Oversaw pilot programs from a central distribution site and was team lead for 5 employees. Monarch HealthCare is part of OptumCare, a leading health care delivery organization that is reinventing health care to help keep people healthier and feeling their best. Dr. Tabon is a WSU College of Pharmacy PharmD grad, Class of 2012. He also recently received the Optum Superhero Award.
