PhD in Pharmaceutical Science

The graduate program in Pharmaceutical Sciences has been awarding graduate degrees since 1931. This research-oriented program which utilizes both human and animal models, prepares students for careers in independent research and teaching in pharmacology, pharmacotherapeutics, toxicology, and related fields. The interests of the faculty are very broad ranging from basic science to clinical research; active areas of research include cancer biology and therapy, gene therapy and delivery, diabetes and novel approaches to its clinical management, pharmacokinetics, proteomics, reproductive biology and neuropharmacology and others.

The diversity in faculty research interests provides students with a solid foundation in many areas of molecular, cellular, whole animal, and human pharmaceutical sciences, and gives them a wide variety of research programs from which a dissertation proposal may be selected.

The curriculum provides students with exposure to virtually all areas of current research in molecular and cellular biochemistry, immunology, molecular biology, basic and clinical pharmacology, pharmaceutics, and toxicology. Formal course requirements are flexible to tailor programs to individual needs.
