College Laptop Initiative

The Student Laptop Initiative requires incoming Pharm.D. students to purchase laptops for convenient, portable, and flexible access to the variety of learning resources available at WSU and on the World Wide Web. Pharmacy education and pharmacy practice in the 21st century will critically depend on graduates who have mastery of information technology. Minimum Requirements

Processor:: 1.8GHz Single Core (2.0GHz+ recommended) or 1.6GHz+ dual core
RAM: 1GB (2GB recommended)
Hard Drive: 80GB ( or larger)
Optical: CD-R/RW or DVD+/-RW
Network: 802.11b/g and 10/100 wired ethernet
OS: Windows XP, Vista or Mac OS X 10.4+
Office: Microsoft Office 2003 Professional, Office 2004 or Office 2007 Professional

Optional:
- USB Flash Drive for moving and sharing files
- External Hard drive for backing up laptop.

PDAs

Some student elect to purchase a PDA in addition to a laptop. When purchasing a PDA please read the specifications carefully. Some PDAs are wireless capable but do not include a wireless adapter. Wireless capable PDAs require you to purchase a wireless add on card.

Palm PDAs: If you purchase a Palm PDA please be aware that you may be required to purchase VPN software if you will be connecting it to the WSU network. Windows based PDAs include VPN software for connecting to the WSU Network.
