Lab Printers
Location: Pullman Campus
Overview
These instructions apply only to the Pullman campus. If you would like to configure a printer for the Spokane campus directions may be found here.
Adding the lab printers to your laptop
In order to add the printer in Wegner Hall G53 to your laptop you need to be connected to the WSU network via wired ethernet or by wireless.
Step 1:
- Download the Dell 5330dn printer drivers to your laptop. Windows 32bit, 64bit, or Mac OS X
- extract the drivers to a local folder on your laptop.
Step 2 (Windows XP/Vista/7):
- download the printer installation script for Windows XP and Vista.
- run the application and enter in "ad\your wsu network id" and "password" when asked to authenticate.
- the printers will now be installed for you.
Step 2 (Mac OS X):
OS X Laptop Users- adding the lab printer
In order to add the printer in Wegner Hall G53 to your laptop you need to be connected to the WSU network via wired ethernet or by wireless.
Mac OS X 10.3 - 10.4 users
- Open Printer Setup Utility (located in /Applications/Utilities)
- Mac OS X 10.4.x users: Choose Add Printer from the Printers menu, then hold the Option key while clicking the "More Printers" button.
-Mac OS X 10.3.x users: Hold the Option key down while choosing Add Printer from the Printers menu.
- Choose Advanced from the first pop-up menu.
- Choose Windows Printer via SAMBA form the Device pop-up menu.
- In the Device Name field, type the name you would like to use for this printer in Mac OS X.
- In the Device URL field, use one of the following formats to link to the printer:
- "smb://networkid:password@ad/diethylamide/WegnerG53a" or
- "smb://networkid:password@ad/diethylamide/WegnerG53b"
where networkid is your WSU Network ID and password is your password.
**Note: Mac OS X 10.4+ may have issues with special characters or a space in your password or username. This is a defect with the Mac OS X software and at this point in time there is no work around.
What is a special character? Any typed character other than A-Z, 0-9, !, $, *, (, ) , +, -, '
Mac OS X 10.5+ users
Step 1 - Make sure you have downloaded the Dell 5330dn drivers for mac and installed them on your computer.
- Select System Preferences
- Select Printers and Faxes
- Select the + button to add a printer
- Right click on the top of the add printer window and then select "Customize" from the pop up list.
- Drag the "Advanced" icon to the toolbar window.
- Close out of the customization window and then select "Advanced" from the toolbar.
- In the type field select "Windows"
- In the URL type in smb://your_wsu_networkid:yourpassword@ad/diethylamide.ad.wsu.edu/WegnerG53a
- In the Name field type in WegnerG53a
- In the Print Using select " Select a driver to use...." and then from the popup window select an Dell 5330dn
- Next select "Add" printer
- Say ok on the next window
- Your printer should now be added.
- repeat for
- smb://your_wsu_networkid:yourpassword@ad/diethylamide.ad.wsu.edu/WegnerG53b
- smb://your_wsu_networkid:yourpassword@ad/diethylamide.ad.wsu.edu/WegnerG55
