Geriatrics research team

A core group of four in the Department of Pharmacotherapy are collaborating with other WSU faculty and health care professionals in research involving the geriatric population. Read about the research team here.

 

Diabetes clinical trial

The Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) trial study is being conducted under the direction of the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md. The Department of Pharmacotherapy clinical trial site in Spokane is one of 70 sites across the United States and Canada participating in the research effort.

Patients with Type 2 diabetes are enrolled in the study and receive medications and close monitoring of their illness. They report every few weeks for a medical checkup by health care professionals.

Cholesterol clinical trial

AIM-HIGH is a five-year cholesterol management program funded by the U.S. National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (a part of the U.S. National Institutes of Health) with support from Abbott Laboratories .

WSU Spokane is one of 72 sites in the US participating in the clincal trial. Dr. Carol Wysham is the principal investigator on the project, and Shannon Yedinak is coordinator.

This study compares how two different FDA-approved treatments for affecting cholesterol levels may reduce the risk of heart attacks, stroke and other heart-related complications. The two FDA-approved treatments used in AIM-HIGH are:
